Paint Disposal and Recycling

All the following information refers to all paints toxic and eco.

The Community Repaint Project

If your tins of paint are more than a third full and less than 10 years old you can donate them to community repaint. They will give the paint to community projects. Most paints are accepted but see site for details. Thay have donation points all over the UK. The donation point for Brighton is located at:

Paint Donation Facility 3
Hove Household Waste Recycling Site
Off Old Shoreham Road
Hove
BN3 7AE

Tel: 01273 410231

Freecycle

Another option is freecycle
From their website: "The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,859 groups with 6,750,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills"

Council Recycling Centres

Some council recycling centres (the tip/dump) will take paint (non-trade). In Brighton & Hove it's only the Hove tip that does. I don't know what they do with the paint but when I do I'll update this page. Hove tip is located off the Old Shoreham Road between Aldrington Avenue and Leighton Road

With the disposal of eco paint there are more options. Some can be composted and some can be thrown out with household rubbish after being allowed to harden.

For more information on disposing of paint see the information sheets supplied by the paint manufacturer, these are usually available online.

Whether or not the paint is natural do not put it down the drain. When washing paint brushes first brush out excess paint into an old piece of paper.

Newlife Paints, based in

Newlife Paints, based in Ford, West Sussex, actually sells recycled paint. I've used the paint and it's top notch.
