Home Strip, Paint & Varnish Remover by eco solutions is a toxic free water based paint and vanish stripper.
So is it any good? In a nut shell it depends on what or where you use it. I have had very good experiences as well as bad. The lesson learnt from the bad experience is test first because once you coat it everywhere your committed to doing the job to completion. You can't stop after the first few coats are stripped because the remaining coats will be part broken down so you'll have to continue on until all the layers of paint have been removed. The bad experience in question was a 150 year old double sash window containing maybe 50 or so layers of paint.

I know, I know what did I expect, It to be easy! Anyway I gave up in the end and used a hot air gun and even that struggled!

The problem all paint strippers seem to have, with solvent based paint, is that the top coat wrinkles lifting the stripper away from the lower coats. This doesn't seem to be a problem with water based acrylic paints.

This brings me on to the good experience. I have a customer who had a problem with damp in one of the rooms in his basement flat. The damp was caused by the fact he used this room to hang clothes out to dry. I suggested as a fix that I remove the conventional unbreathable paint and replace it with a breathable eco paint. Thus allowing moisture to escape. I used home strip to remove the paint from the ceiling and some walls. The area I removed was about 25 square meters and it took about one and half days. Only one application of home strip was needed and it was strip-able after about 20 minutes. Though, I preferred to scrape the paint when the stripper was drying as this was less messy and left less paint residue on the substrate. While it may have taken a day and a half to remove all the paint it took a further day and half to wash the walls down to remove the stripper from the plaster and wash off left behind paint residue.

The tools you use will make a big difference on stripping speeds. Your typical stripping knifes (skipping knife) are generally useless for stripping paint regardless of technique used. The best paint strippers are the ones you pull over the surface where the blade is at about a 85 degree angle on the surface. Wood chisels can also be useful.

I have tried out Home Strip Paint & Varnish Remover in other places but only for seeing what it can do. Over all I recommend it. Remember to test first and have a selection of good quality tools at your disposal.

One final note. I can confirm that this product is pleasant to use as far as human health is concerned. I experienced no headaches, asthma, or allergies. I got it on my skin a number of times with out any reaction (though I still washed it off, of course).

There are some products I always like to have in my kit at all times and Home Strip Paint & Varnish Remover will be one of them.
